What is Embroidery?

September 29, 2026 · Updated

Embroidery is a premium decoration method available on selected Tapstitch products. Unlike printed designs, embroidery uses colored threads stitched directly into the garment, creating a textured, durable, and professional finish. Text embroidery is currently available, allowing you to customize your text, font, thread colors, and size directly in the Design Tool. After updating the preview, you'll see a realistic simulation of your embroidery design before placing your order.

What is Embroidery?

Embroidery is a decoration technique that stitches colored threads directly onto fabric to create raised, textured designs. Compared with printed graphics, embroidered designs offer a premium look with excellent durability, making them ideal for logos, names, initials, and branded apparel. At this stage, Tapstitch supports text-based embroidery, making it easy to create personalized embroidered text directly in the Design Tool.

Why Choose Embroidery?

Embroidery offers several advantages over traditional printing methods.

Premium appearance

Embroidery creates a clean, textured finish that gives garments a more professional and premium look.

Long-lasting durability

Because the design is stitched with thread instead of printed with ink, embroidery is highly resistant to fading and regular washing.

Added texture

Raised stitches create depth and dimension that cannot be achieved with standard printing techniques.

Easy personalization

Customize your embroidered text by choosing different fonts, colors, and sizes—all within the Design Tool.

How Does Embroidery Pricing Work?

Embroidery pricing is based on the estimated stitch count of your design. The estimated stitch count determines which pricing tier your design falls into. After you finish your embroidery design, Tapstitch automatically analyzes the design and estimates the total number of stitches required. Your design is then assigned to a pricing tier based on that stitch count.

Embroidery Pricing Tiers

💡 What is a stitch?

A stitch is a single thread movement made by the embroidery machine. More complex designs require more stitches, which increases production time and cost.

Tier Estimated Stitch Count Price
T1 0–6,999 USD 3.02
T2 7,000–14,999 USD 4.62
T3 15,000–19,999 USD 5.99
T4 20,000–24,999 USD 7.35
T5 25,000–34,999 USD 10.08
T6 35,000–44,999 USD 12.81
T7 45,000–59,999 USD 16.91
T8 60,000+ USD 19.64

Note: All prices shown are in USD. At checkout, embroidery charges are automatically converted to your account's billing currency (such as EUR, CAD, or GBP).

Generally, designs with more stitches require more production time and thread, resulting in a higher embroidery cost.

How Can I Reduce Embroidery Costs?

If you'd like to lower the embroidery cost, consider:

  • Using a smaller text size
  • Choosing simpler fonts
  • Reducing the amount of embroidered text
  • Using a less complex design

Simpler designs generally require fewer stitches and may fall into a lower pricing tier. You can review the updated pricing each time you regenerate your embroidery preview.

Pricing FAQ

1.When is the embroidery price calculated?

The embroidery price is calculated whenever you generate or update your embroidery preview. If you change the text, font, size, or other design settings and regenerate the preview, the estimated stitch count—and therefore the embroidery price—may also change.

2.What affects the stitch count?

The estimated stitch count is influenced by several factors, including:

  • Text length
  • Font selection
  • Text size
  • Letter spacing
  • Design complexity

Because these factors affect the amount of stitching required, two designs with the same number of characters may have different embroidery prices.

Current Limitations
