Before You Start
For accurate measurements, follow these simple steps:
- Choose a garment that fits you well. Pick a similar style to the product you want to order.
- Lay it flat. Place the garment on a smooth, even surface and gently smooth out any wrinkles without stretching the fabric.
- Use a measuring tape. Measure each area according to the instructions below.
- Check the measurement units. Make sure you're comparing inches with inches or centimeters with centimeters.
- Compare with the Size Guide. Find the closest match on the product page.
Important: Tapstitch clothing size guides generally show garment measurements, not body measurements. Size labels such as S, M, and L may vary between products, so always check the measurements for the specific item you're ordering.
How to Measure Different Types of Clothing
Different clothing styles may use different measurement points. Follow the instructions for the garment category you're measuring.
1. T-Shirts
For standard T-shirts, the most common measurements are Length, Shoulder, Chest, and Sleeve Length.
| Length | Shoulder | Chest | Sleeve Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Measure from where the shoulder seam meets the collar straight down to the bottom hem. | Measure across the garment from where the shoulder seam meets the sleeve on one side to the same point on the other side. | Measure straight across the garment from one underarm seam to the other, just below the armpits. This is the flat chest width, not the full chest circumference. | Measure from where the shoulder seam meets the sleeve to the end of the sleeve cuff. |

Tip: For oversized or relaxed-fit T-shirts, compare both the chest width and shoulder measurements to better understand how the garment will fit.
2. Hoodies & Sweatshirts
For standard hoodies and sweatshirts, the most common measurements are Length, Shoulder, Chest, and Sleeve Length.

| Length | Shoulder | Chest | Sleeve_Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Measure from where the shoulder seam meets the collar straight down to the bottom hem. | Measure across the garment from where the shoulder seam meets the sleeve on one side to the same point on the other side. | Measure straight across the garment from one underarm seam to the other, just below the armpits. This is the flat chest width, not the full chest circumference. | Measure from where the shoulder seam meets the armhole down to the end of the sleeve cuff. |

Tip: When measuring a hoodie, lay it flat with the zipper closed (if applicable) and smooth out the fabric without stretching it. Do not include the hood in the body length measurement. For oversized or relaxed-fit hoodies, compare both the chest width and shoulder measurements to find your preferred fit.

How to Use the Size Guide
Every Tapstitch product has its own Size Guide showing the available sizes and corresponding measurements.
To find your best fit:
- Open the product page and locate the Size Guide.
- Select Inches or Centimeters.
- Find the measurements for the size you're considering.
- Compare them with a similar garment you already own.
- Choose the size that most closely matches your preferred fit.
For example, if your favorite T-shirt measures approximately 22 inches across the chest when laid flat, look for a size with a similar chest measurement.
Remember to check other measurements, such as length and shoulder width, rather than relying on chest width alone.
Tips for Choosing the Right Size
- Don't rely on size labels alone An M in one product may fit differently from an M in another. Always refer to the product's measurements.
- Compare with similar clothing Use a garment with a similar style and fit. For example, compare an oversized T-shirt with another oversized T-shirt rather than a slim-fit one.
- Consider your preferred fit If you prefer a loose or relaxed fit, choose measurements that match a garment you find comfortable.
- Check each product's Size Guide Even products within the same category may have different cuts, fabric compositions, and sizing specifications.
- Allow for measurement variations Small differences may occur during manufacturing or manual measurement. Always refer to the measurement tolerance stated in the individual product's Size Guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Are the measurements in the Size Guide body measurements or garment measurements?
Tapstitch clothing size guides generally provide garment measurements rather than body measurements.
For example, the Chest measurement on a standard T-shirt size chart usually represents the width across the garment when laid flat, not your body chest circumference.
2. Why does the same size fit differently across products?
Different products may have different cuts, fabrics, and fit styles. A size M in one product may have different measurements from a size M in another.
We recommend checking the Size Guide for each product before ordering.
3. What if my measurements fall between two sizes?
Consider your preferred fit and compare the measurements with a similar garment you already own.
If you prefer a looser fit, you may want to choose the larger size. If you prefer a closer fit, the smaller size may be more suitable, depending on the garment's cut and fabric.
4. Why are the actual measurements slightly different from the Size Guide?
Small variations can occur due to manufacturing processes and manual measurement.
Some products may have a measurement tolerance of approximately 1–3 cm. Please check the specific product's Size Guide for applicable details.
5. Can I use my body measurements to choose a size?
Body measurements can be a helpful reference, but garment measurements also include room for fit and movement.
For a more accurate comparison, we recommend measuring a similar garment that already fits you comfortably.
6. Should I order the same size for every Tapstitch product?
Not necessarily. Different products may follow different sizing specifications, even within the same clothing category.
Always check the Size Guide for each product before placing your order.
